Compact Tractor Comparison: Kubota L Series vs. John Deere 3E Series

8/10/2018

You’ve got options.

The Kubota L Series’ optional HST transmission system features a three-range shift option compared to the John Deere’s two-range shift option. The mid-range HST option available on the Kubota, and not the Deere, provides more versatility and usability on the tractor.

Where speed meets power.

The Kubota L Series features a quick-mount front loader. This means you can leave the loader behind when not needed and reattach it afterwards, all in minutes. The John Deere 3E Series has a fixed-mount loader, which means removing the loader requires several tools and a lot of time.

Additionally, Kubota’s L Series boasts a deluxe hydraulics system, compares to Deere’s 3E Series’ basic hydraulics. Kubota’s superior hydraulics system allows the L Series to perform dual functions with its front loader. This means having the capability to raise the loader and dump or curl the bucket simultaneously.

The John Deere 3E Series’ more basic hydraulic system means you’re stuck with a single function; moving the loader or the bucket one at a time. Trying to manipulate both the loader and the bucket cause the 3E Series’ hydraulics to start-and-stop in a jerky motion.

Quality, through-and-through.

The Kubota L Series is built with long-lasting quality in mind, and it shows in the details. For example, the Kubota L Series sports a metal hood compared the John Deere’s plastic hood. Kubota’s hood is also an automatic one-piece design, allowing easy engine access, as opposed to John Deere’s manual two-piece design, which not only makes accessing the engine difficult, but makes getting the hood up a challenge in the first place.

What are you made of?

The Kubota L Series is made from a steel construction. This allows the L Series to work with backhoe attachments and withstand even the toughest jobs.

The John Deere 3E Series is made from an aluminum construction, and John Deere does not recommend attaching a backhoe. In fact, John Deere does not produce a backhoe compatible with its 3E Series.

Not convinced?

Here are some other features of the L Series that make it stand out:

  • Easy to Use Control Layout – Ergonomic controls increase both operator comfort and safety
  • HST Treadle Pedal – HST models come with the Kubota Treadle Pedal, which is easy to use with no confusion on which pedal you are pushing, making every job faster and safer
  • Performance Matched Implements - Kubota Front End Loaders and Backhoes are performance matched, meaning they are designed for the maximum capacities that the base tractor can handle. With Kubota performance matched implements, you know you are getting the most out of your piece of equipment.
  • Kubota Diesel Engine – Kubota is the #1 manufacturer in the world for under 100 HP non-automotive, multi-cylinder diesel engines
  • Heavy Duty Construction – From the heavy duty front axle to the cast steel transmission and rear end, all the way to the steel hood and fenders, the Kubota is built to last

And finally: Kubota is the #1 selling compact tractor brand in the USA, and has been for over a decade.
