When Emma Jagoz was pregnant with her first child, she learned that certain foods could positively impact her baby’s brain development. Rather than drain her entire grocery budget on arugula and organic specialty veggies, she found a seed catalog with countless varieties and made a purchase. The plants grew on her apartment balcony and when it was time for harvest, Emma was obsessed with the taste. She decided to turn the venture into a business and expanded her green thumb to start a CSA. At the time, in 2012, Moon Valley Farm had 12 members. Today in their 14th growing season, Emma and her staff of 30 serve over 1,200 people.
With 70 acres of property, the certified organic farm grows produce for school systems, hospitals, and even some of the most prestigious restaurants. Emma says Moon Valley Farm is on a mission to make quality produce accessible to all.
In order to do that efficiently, the farm utilizes three Kubotas. For cultivation, slaying, and sweeping, Emma and staff rely on their 1987 Kubota L245H. Even at almost 40 years old, the tractor runs well and is extremely versatile. Moon Valley Farm finds their M110 particularly useful because the closed cab makes long work days more comfortable. And finally, the slow creep mode on their M104 is invaluable for harvesting and transplanting. Emma says Kubota has been a great fit for the farm because parts are easy to find and local dealers are responsive and helpful.
So what’s next for Moon Valley Farm? Well, Emma says the goal is to keep growing deeper. As a 1st generation, self-taught farmer, she wants to continue to learn and improve the farm’s organic practices as well as efficiencies in production.
